Dr. Melissa Halvorson was born and raised in North Dakota. She attended the University of North Dakota for undergraduate and medical school studies, completing her medical education at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. Dr. Halvorson did her Obstetrics/Gynecology residency in Grand Rapids, MI at Butterworth Hospital, Helen Devos Women’s and Children’s Center (now part of Spectrum Health). This is where she met and married her husband, Dan Smith. She initially practiced in Howell, MI and then in the Lansing/East Lansing area for the last 20 years. She is excited for this new opportunity to expand women’s health care in this area and looking forward to providing a comprehensive health care approach to preventive and problem-based care for women. She and Dan have four teenagers and have recently settled in Westphalia, MI with a multitude of pets. She is active with a variety of nonprofit agencies and her passion is serving those who are underserved through acts of service and giving back to her community whenever she can.
